American what? You must
have been “Lost” or something since the 11th of June, 2002.
This show has run on the Fox
Broadcasting Network since then with no signs of slowing down. It’s already won
1 Emmy and 21 other awards since it’s debut. Originally the idea came to the
United States from the UK. It was from a British reality program called Pop
Idol.
In a society that all seem
to want to be popular and in the spot-light, this program caught on quickly,
allowing an interactive environment between the contestants and the audience.
Viewers of the show can vote in real time for their favorite Idol hopeful.
The entire process from
auditions thru to the naming of the “Next American Idol” is captured and
broadcast to the nation. The AI performers are judged by a celebrity panel
which includes: record producer and bass player Randy Jackson; pop star, Paula
Abdul; and music executive, Simon Cowell. It’s not just the contestants that
become house-hold names…
Ryan Seacrest the show’s emcee, once a radio
personality is now everywhere you turn!
Some of the past American
Idol Winners include: Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard, Fantasia Barrino, and
Carie Underwood, just to name a few.
